I’m aiming for something very promising. Every time I fantasize having it and I start getting excited, something tells me not to be too hopeful, that it could go either North or South. Then I tame my excitement, I put a leash on my positive energy, I restrain my imagination till all I’m left with is a half-baked confidence pie.

So yesterday when my fantasies were prepping for another electrifying trip, the reminder returned, and this is what I told it; to hell with you!

So on behalf of everyone with a hope and an expectation, but has a nagging reminder of the possibility of it not actualizing, this’ our anthem, our doubt repellent!

 

To hell with you!

You obnoxious reminder of the possibility of failure,

To hell with you.

You party pooper, fun destroyer,

You pot of cold water,

Pouring yourself over my heated, zealous body

To hell with you.

 

You wave of discouragement

Masquerading as a reality check,

I say, to hell with you.

 

You sound like a tape on fast forward,

Like a broken record of sorts.

You sound like a boring nursery rhyme

And I’m not compelled to say you anymore

I graduated, so to hell with you.

 

You’re an itch on my skin

An empty konko, a milk tin

So I throw you in the bin,

Where you belong.

I can’t believe I wore you like a badge for this long.

To hell with you.

 

Now that I can see the light

Your reign is over.

Heck I’m a child of God,

Almighty Jehovah

I move like I’m on an escalator

Each step I take, you look much smaller.

 

You’re expired, your ‘best before’ date’s up

So to hell with you one last time,

Be gone before I’m done with this line!
