Goldin News!! Introducing Joshua Amoah

14 Feb

It’s been a while since we had a new guest blogger here on Goldinwords, and the one we have today was worth the wait.

When I gotto know Joshua, it was as a fantastic leader (School-Pee of Mfantsipim). Then I found out he was more of a musician than even a leader. Throughout Tech (KNUST), he was as magical behind the microphone as with the guitar or the organ.

So yes, to me Joshua Amoah was only good for leadership, music and the looks until I got a facebook notification that I had been tagged in a note. I didn’t so much love the note as I was impacted by it.

His language is Read the rest of this entry »

Guest Contributer Nana Oye: Don’t Throw The Baby Out With The Dishwater (literally)

17 Dec

Nana Oye is a long-standing guest blogger of high repute  here on Goldinwords. She’s earned her reputation by virtue of the quality of  work she’s consistently produced. Today, in story format, she takes us through the world of Miss Algae. A world you’re incapable of going through without making some serious adjustment to your own. It’s a bit lengthy, but i can assure you it’ll be worth the read. cheers!

“Miss Algae is a disgrace to this church and the values we stand for. She is pregnant at seventeen with no husband to show. To set an example for other young girls who may be tempted to indulge in pre-marital sex, we, the disciplinary committee of Fear and Trembling International Church, sentence her to six months of community service to the church. She and Brother Sammy, whom she caused to fall, will wear red velvet robes for identification until she delivers, upon which a consecration ceremony will be had for the baby and the parents. They will also talk to the youth every fortnight about the evil and dangers of pre-marital sex” The chairman of the disciplinary committee pronounced.

As I sat there listening to the proceedings, I wanted to jump and scream. I did not attend the church. I was there because Miss Algae is my friend – One of my closest friends. I had come to lend her support. God knows she wasn’t getting any from her parents! In fact, outraged as I was by what she was going through in the name of discipline, it was actually milder than what had happened to her when I had gone home with her to break the news to her family. Her father had slapped her, called her names, and threatened to disown her. Her mother had rolled on the floor screaming, “You have disgraced me and brought all my toils to naught. Araba, you have killed me oo!” You can imagine what that must have done to the scared and pregnant seventeen year-old. Read the rest of this entry »

Goldin News!!!! Introducing Edith Faalong

02 Sep

I always say I’m thrilled when introducing a guest blogger (truth’s they’re all thrill-worthy), and today’s guest blogger makes me feel no different. I’ve actually been itching the whole of this past week for today to arrive so I can make this introduction.

Edith Faalong is a fantastic writer with Indulging depth. She has a long writing track-record and has had her work featured on several prominent platforms. Recently, she started her own blog; womaninwords, which gives an interesting feminine perspective to diverse issues. I can confidently say that her writing style’s pretty much unique and outstanding, probably because of how responsive she is to her inspirations. Her pieces are usually brief, profound and precise. They have a lingering effect, and command your admiration without checking with you first.

I’m privileged that Edith Read the rest of this entry »

Guest Contributer Priscilla Orleans Kpodoh; Third Decade’s Over

19 Aug

Of all the things she is, Priscilla’s definitely not a stranger to Goldinwords; having featured a few times. From a budding to a thought-provoking writer, she’s glorifying English language with her work. And today, you’ll be enjoying a piece that takes an unconventional look about being so career-obsessed, you end up alone when everyone’s walking down the aisle.

Priscy, tell ‘em!!

Recently, I’ve just been thinking about the 30sth-yr-old dames who are still alone, not even with boyfriends or promise rings. All they’ve become (in the social sense at least), are great aunts to the kids of sisters and friends…

Lonely At Thirty
The clock ticks steadily;
Time tarries not for her,
Soon she withers,
And cannot attract a sap.

Goldin news!! Introducing Juliet Azedi Ajaab

05 Aug

Over these past five months that Goldinwords’ been around, a number of excellent writers have featured top notch articles. So, if I were you, I’d be wondering; “Can it get better? Can Goldinwords feature yet ANOTHER excellent writer deserving of my goldin time?” Well, Yessss, Yesss, Yessss. Yes because today’s guest blogger is in a class all by herself.

Juliet is a multidimensional artist. She has such a sharp taste in fashion she started her own clothing line; Zedi & Cross. She has a fantastic singing voice also; one time I got her to serenade me with Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ and I hated my phone for not having a ‘record’ button. More relevantly though, is the fact that she’s a very engagingly seasoned writer with a thriving blog; www.azedi.blogspot.com/. If you’re her friend on facebook, you might have seen her work already. I read a couple of her pieces and Read the rest of this entry »

Goldinwords has brought such untellable fortunes, and the greatest of them being friends of like passions. In the past few months, I’ve gotten to know such exceptionally superb people I’ll probably never have known but for Goldinwords, a typical example being Priscilla. From just an off-hand comment on a post of mine to such bonding friendship in just a couple of months is incredible!!

Her most salient attribute as a writer being her blunt , Read the rest of this entry »

Goldin News!! Introducing; Kwaku Dankwa

16 Jun

The dynamics of birthday celebrations have changed in Ghana. From the times when your folks and friends organized a surprise party, and you entered to see just how many friends had conspired to surprise you, to the times (now) when you’ve got to throw the party and surprise your friends. My gosh!!

So yesterday having been my b-day, I’m throwing some kinda party that’ll blow you away, and my new-found friend; Kwaku Dankwa will help me do that. Kwaku has a fantastic blog called; The Daily Commute: from bridge to ridge which talks about the ever-exciting world of public transport In Ghana. I chanced upon a link to his blog one time on FB, and I was literally glued to it. Wit, humor and such a firmly comfortable control over the English language are just three of the adjectives that quickly came to me when I read his pieces. So I enthusiastically and rather spontaneously asked that he drop by Goldinwords sometime, and he agreed.

Goldin News!! Introducing; Naa Lamiley Adamafio

03 Jun

You know how you can know someone for a long long time, and still be shocked when you find that they had a certain gift that you never knew they had? All of a sudden, the regular Joe you’ve always known your whole life is a maverick behind the piano, or a melodic wonder behind a microphone, a beauty queen on a Malaika stage.

It was like that with Naa Lamiley. We’ve been friends longer than it takes to get a first degree in legon. (even if u went on a year abroad programme), getting closer by the week, and I never knew she had it like that till she tagged me in one of her fb notes, I was wowed. First I thought it was a one-off, then she became consistent, then better, then I couldn’t help it anymore, so I asked “pretty please Naa, would you feature on Goldinwords? Everybody’s gonna love this!!” so today we have another first of many more (hopefully).

So, this fine Thursday, I present to you a very fine writer in her own rights (& who should’ve had a blog already!!!), very gifted with delivery, my very dear friend Naa Lamiley Adamafio.

Goldin News!! Introducing; Nana Oye Odame

13 May

If you are lucky, at least once in your lifetime, you meet a person who divides your life into 2; the time before you met her, and the time after –from the movie “My sassy girl”.

Well I met a girl like this 6 years back. She didn’t divide the entirety of my life, but she did divide my literary and intellectual lives into two; the time before I met Nana Oye, and the time after. And today I’m exceedingly elated that she’s agreed to feature on Goldinwords.

Please don’t get it twisted, I usually don’t throw words around like that, but you’ve got to call a spade a spade. So to call Nana Oye a peculiarly intriguing contemporary writer is like calling a spade a spoon. In fact, she inspired me (indirectly) to begin writing articles (in addition to poems).

So it’s with the greatest honor that I present to you a rare combination of wit, humor, looks, intellect, ingenuity, originality, depth and crisp lucidity all wrapped up in one mortal. I present to you *drum roll* Nana Oye Odame.

Goldin News! Introducing Tele Hassan

29 Apr

I’m soo excited eh! I’ve been looking forward to today the whole week through, I kept asking myself over and over again; “when’s Thurs. gonna come so I can make a major Goldin introduction to you. There’s a fantastic writer I have the privilege of knowing personally. His writing style is quite unique and ingenious; he’ll use any trick he can lay his hands on in Microsoft Word to make his point. If you’ve ever wondered how fluidity and passion look like when they’re oozing out of words, then you won’t have to wonder much longer, because today on Goldinwords for the 1st of many times (I hope) Tele Hassan will blow away the wonder and replace it with yonder (in my desperate Ghanaian attempt to rhyme, loll!!!) . But Tele will write about a topic you thought you’d read too much of in a way that’ll make you wish each article was just the 1st page of a 600 paged book.

FANTASTIC NEWS!- Introducing Jemila Abdulai

15 Apr

First of all, I’ll like to assure you  that if you read anyone else’s work on this blog, it’s because the person’s work is just as good or better than the stuff I write, and very deserving of your Goldin time. When I first considered starting a blog, I got immense help and encouragement from 3 people in particular. 1 of them is going to be the first guest blogger to feature on Goldinwords. She started blogging years back and has a very global perspective with a very large fan-base and readership. I’ll like to introduce you to a lady whose blogs aren’t just intellectually engaging, but also liberating. Very in touch with her homeland and unbelievably patriotic! These are her credentials; the ones that appeal to me most, if you don’t think it’s worthy of an ovation, please give yourself 5 mins, till you’re done reading her first blog here on Goldinwords. I present to you (with great honor); from Circumspect,  Jemila Abdulai.
