Good good boys, Bad bad boys, a girl & her shoes

23 Jun
Our second guest blogger for this week is Kwame Pocho. Honestly, i’ve always thought of him as a computer whizz (which he is). In the couple of years I’ve known him I hadnt been privy to his literary prowess until I saw this piece of his. It was a facebook sensation, probably because of its uniqueness. It’s intriguing and very different from what you’re used to. I got him to allow for you to see it. I also asked him to give us a gist of the story behind the story. He told me this;
“…This poem was how I summed up a conversation I had with my beloved. She actually tried to define why girls generally like bad boys. She said it was kinda like the way girls love heels; knowing very well “you can’t walk too far in heels” but you wear them anyway cos you know they make you look elegant, or at least make you feel elevated (both literary and figuratively speaking). That conversation was so intriguing I just had to put it together, and I made a poem out of it, just for the fun of it.”

Good good boys, Bad bad boys, a girl and her shoes~by Kwame Pocho
So she tell to me,

lemme tell to you why girls love them bad bad boys,

and don’t look at them good good boys;

She tell to me, think of boys as shoes:

Good good boys them like flat shoes;

Them are safe and dependable any day, any weather, 4eva!

Bad bad boys them  like heels;

Your Doctor tell say them no good for your sole

Guest Poet Nana Oye Odame; Missing You…

03 Mar

My dear friend Nana Oye is (amongst many things) a gifted poet who’s featured some classic work here on Goldinwords in the past. When i read this poem of hers it was obvious that the inspiration was undiluted and strong. I was anxious to have you see it als0, so without much i do ado, I’m going to let Nana Oye tell her story.

When i left the shores of Ghana, i was worried and unsure about what i left behind. But he proved himself time and again by how sweet he was over the distance and how pampered he could make me feel from all the way over there. I closed from church one sunday in a thankful mood and wanted to write a poem counting all my blessings. I guess he was the blessing at the fore of my mind because the poem just flowed out of my mind onto the paper. i didn’t have to edit it. he made me think poetry.

Missing You

I did not intend to write about you

But I picked up my pen, looked at the paper

And thoughts of you flew unbidden from my mind

Streaming down my right hand,

into the pen and onto this sheet

Guest Contributer Juliet Azedi: His Smile

05 Aug

I’m sure I woke up at the wrong side of the bed because things were just not going on well for me. I overslept so I had to rush to work or else I was going to be super late. I skipped breakfast and dashed out of the house. When I got into my car it wouldn’t start. I tried it a couple of times and it still wouldn’t budge. I got out and rushed to catch a taxi. When I got to the office, my boss had put a memo on my desk. I was to see him IMMEDIATELY. Then I remembered. I was to email him last month’s financial report yesterday. He needed it for a presentation at 9am today. I looked at my phone and saw 7 missed calls all from my boss and the time read 9:45! Read the rest of this entry »
